Mitsubishi Uji Coba Regional Jet, Inikah Momen Kebangkitan Industri Dirgantara Jepang?

Liverpool, Man City leave it late

first_imgManchester City left it late to win. Liverpool left it even later. The two teams leading the English Premier League each staged late comebacks to win 2-1 against unfavoured opponents yesterday. The gap between leaders Liverpool and second-placed City stayed at six points, but only after some late drama. For City, the hero was Kyle Walker, setting up one goal and scoring the winner against Southampton in the 86th minute. For Liverpool, it was Sadio Mane with an assist for Andy Robertson in the 87th and a winning header against Aston Villa deep into stoppage time. Before Southampton and Aston Villa had their dreams of a surprise win crushed, Bournemouth celebrated a 1-0 victory over a diminished Manchester United.Liverpool’s players knew how close they came to losing their status as the only unbeaten team in the league, but they kept fighting.Robertson said his team’s job was to force errors from Villa all the way to the final whistle. His charging run to the far post to meet Mane’s cross certainly wrongfooted Villa’s defence.“We want to keep going, we want to win every match,” Robertson said. “If we do that or not, that’s another thing. We know we’ve got so many tough games ahead.”Only one team has won the league unbeaten — Arsenal in 2004.Before Liverpool’s comeback, it looked like the video assistant referee system might have decided the game. Lengthy review VAR checks declared Villa’s Mahmoud ‘Trezeguet’ Hassan onside for the opening goal, but ruled Roberto Firmino’s armpit was marginally offside when he put the ball into the net for Liverpool shortly after. The lengthy review left Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wondering whether the VAR officials needed extra time “to find a line where Bobby was offside.”City had little trouble beating Southampton 3-1 in the League Cup on Tuesday, but yesterday was a very different proposition. When Ederson spilled the ball while saving Stuart Armstrong’s shot in the 13th, James Ward-Prowse was waiting to pounce.Southampton were organised in defence in vast contrast to their 9-0 capitulation to Leicester eight days before, and held City at bay until Walker and Aguero combined to score two vital goals.Manchester United not good enough to get a draw at Bournemouth? A few years, ago that would have sounded ridiculous. Lack of quality Yet, it was United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who said “it was the lack of quality that couldn’t give us the point or three” in heavy rain on England’s south coast.Joshua King, a former United youth player, scored the only goal of the game in the 45th minute, turning and shooting as United’s star summer signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka did little to stop him.Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers drew 1-1 after Raul Jimenez scored for Wolves in the 76th to even out Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s earlier goal for Arsenal. The Gunners have conceded in each of their last five games in all competitions.Elsewhere, Sheffield United earned their biggest win since returning to the league, beating Burnley 3-0 to rise to third in the table, thanks to two goals from John Lundstram. Sheffield are unbeaten in their last four games. After strong early season form, West Ham’s slide continued with a 3-2 loss to Newcastle, their sixth game without a win, while Brighton returned to the top half of the table with a 2-0 win over Norwich.last_img read more

D’haquille Williams still ‘day-to-day’

first_imgAUBURN — D’haquille Williams is “coming along nicely” in his recovery from a reported sprained right MCL.Lashlee was unsure if Williams, who did not travel with the team to Georgia, would be able to return this week, though with FCS Samford coming to Jordan-Hare the Iron Bowl seems far more likely as a potential return date.“We’ll just have to kind of keep taking it day to day,” Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee said. “I don’t know (if Williams will play against Samford). I’m optimistic always that we can get him back as soon as possible. I think that literally is a day-to-day deal that we have to keep playing by ear and see how it comes along.”Auburn struggled passing without Williams in the lineup, with three players each with three receptions and none for more than 40 yards against Georgia.last_img read more

Brother’s death inspires Essien

first_imgChelsea star Michael Essien has told the BBC how his brother’s death inspired him to set up a charity in his native Ghana. The Michael Essien Foundation will be launched on 14 November, just before Ghana’s final 2010 qualifying match.“Hopefully I can do something to help the village where I grew up,” he told the BBC World Service.“It’s about 30 minutes outside Accra, where I grew up with my four sisters and my Mum.“The most important thing for me to set up this foundation was my late brother,” Essien said.“I never got the chance to meet him before he died but I learned later he died when looking for water for the family to live by. “So that’s why I came up with this foundation to help the communities, develop the amenities and give them opportunities to do something.”The charity will be launched at Ghana’s State House in Accra, with guests ranging from the country’s Vice-President to the former World Footballer of the Year George Weah.Essien and some of his Ghana team mates will also be there, a day before they meet Mali in the last game of Africa’s marathon road to South Africa 2010.The Black Stars secured their place in South Africa some time ago and Essien says he’s hoping to help them go a long way at the global showpiece next year.He missed their last game at a World Cup finals, the defeat against Brazil in Germany 2006, because of suspension. “To me it was one of the biggest games of my life but that’s football, you have to accept it and move forward,” he told the BBC.“I’m looking forward to another great tournament next year so hopefully I can play all the games and see what happens.”Source: Booklast_img read more

Obama: Qatar wrong choice for 2022

first_imgBarack Obama, the US president, has said that Fifa, the world governing football body erred in awarding the 2022 World Cup to Qatar instead of his country.“I think it was the wrong decision,” Obama told reporters at the White House on Thursday. He said he remained optimistic that the US team would make it to the finals.Fifa selected Qatar over bids from the US, Japan, South Korea and Australia to play host for the games in 2022.Russia won the right to stage the 2018 World Cup.The US Football Federation spent millions of dollars on its bid. Bill Clinton, the former US president, was highly involved in the process and participated in the closing presentation. Those pushing the US bid had hoped that bringing the World Cup back to the country for the first time since 1994 would boost the slow but steady growth of football in America.Qatar hailed Thursday’s decision as a victory over misconceptions about the country’s bid.The Gulf state was initially seen as an outsider, regarded by many as too small and hot to stage the tournament. It will now become the smallest country to host the World Cup after convincing Fifa that its plans to build carbon-neutral air-conditioned stadiums to combat the searing summer heat are viable.Thanking Fifa for their “bold vision”, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad al-Thani, the bid committee chairman, said: “We started off being written off, the unconventional bid, the bid that nobody saw coming, that nobody thought had a chance to win”. “As you can recall, there were several tournaments with similar climates to Qatar but because of the misconceptions, it was difficult to combat those, to prove ourselves on the world stage.“One of the most important was Qatar cannot do it because Qatar is too hot. It’s very important to have faith as Fifa did when they went to South Africa in 2010 and it’s important to get beyond these perceptions.”Qatari triumphSheikh Mohammed said that another misconception was that women in the Middle East were not allowed to play football, adding that Qatar was setting up a professional women’s championship.“The perception that women are oppressed is another wrong perception,” he said. “We will deliver with passion and make sure this is a milestone in the history of the Middle East and a milestone for Fifa.”Sheikh Mohammed said Fifa’s decision was “a statement of trust, of loyalty to the game”.“On behalf of millions of people in the Middle East, thank you for believing in us, thank you for having such bold vision. I can promise we will not let you down,” he said.“Most importantly [for the people of the Middle East], rather than watching a World Cup overseas across thousands of miles, it’s finally at their door … finally being recognised by Fifa as an integral part of the footballing world.“To Fifa, thank you for acknowledging this is the right time for the Middle East, we have a date with history,” he said.
