Trinidad & Tobago Independence “Diaspora’s Next Gen” Spotlight: Vanessa James

first_imgMeet media maven Vanessa James.Age: 35Hometown: San FernandoProfession: Voiceover Actor, Producer and Social Media StrategistWith a face for the screen, a voice for radio, and the brains to conquer all, it’s no wonder Vanessa James is making waves. Through her own brand management and content production company VJMedia, Vanessa has become a multi-media master of ceremonies. With both Trini and Venezuelan backgrounds, the bi-lingual presenter is the voice for stations across the U.S., travel correspondent for platforms like US Today, and brand ambassador for Cadillac and Chevy, Trinidad and Tobago Carnival, and Jamaica’s Jazz and Blues Fest. Her current success came from a difficult decision to leave her first love, radio, at her post as music director and midday host for Miami’s WMIB-FM 103.5 The Beat.“Leaving traditional radio after over 12 years to start my own company was probably one of my biggest risks,” says Vanessa. “But I’ve always been the kind of person that’s thrived on challenges; it must be the Trinidadian in me.”Though hard, the move deeply satisfied Vanessa’s longing to “connect deeper with the people that I once spoke to every day on the radio in the diverse community of South Florida.”And no one mingles better than Vanessa, particularly through her signature event, VJMedia Mixology, where local bloggers, journalists and tastemakers gather to talk shop over cocktails, fulfilling a collaborative “niche that needed to be served,” says Vanessa. For 2015, Vanessa plans to take the creative fete worldwide through her new travel show, “Carnival to the World,” uncovering carnivals in the Caribbean, South America and Europe. Premiering September 26 in midtown Miami, the new project proves deeply personal for the proud Trini.“The spirit of Carnival is much more than just a yearly event,” says Vanessa. “The revelry, costumery, the Mas, vibrant music and people are all a reflection of our cosmopolitan island.”last_img read more

Player quizzed on Celtic interest over leaked document – Wants clarification…

first_imgA document allegedly outlining Celtic’s detailed summer transfer plans, including potential targets for next season and also contract situations of current players, has been leaked, or “leaked”, online. Mathias Jørgensen, commonly known as Zanka was identified as one of the defensive targets and the next step suggested was: “PL to discuss with agents”.PL is Celtic’s chief executive, Peter Lawwell.Given all the fuss, the Huddersfield Town centre-back has been asked about the possibility of making a switch to Celtic Park.Speaking to Danish publication BT, the 29-year-old said: “I can’t discuss whether that is legit or not. So, I don’t really want to talk about that.”The Terriers were one of the three clubs who were relegated from the Premier League and Zanka has a year left on his contract.Embed from Getty ImagesThere have been rumours linking the Dane with Southampton and Schalke and the player also provided an update about his future.“Of course, I would like a clarification as soon as possible, but it is also about being able to make the right choice,” the Huddersfield defender added. He said he wants to escape the ‘boring’ situation he found himself in at the end of Huddersfield’s season, left out of the club’s team. Given how evasive Zanka has been, perhaps there is something in Celtic interest and he doesn’t want to add to the complications.by Taboolaby TaboolaSponsored LinksSponsored LinksPromoted LinksPromoted LinksTrending TodayForge of Empires – Free Online GameIf You Like to Play, this City-Building Game is a Must-Have. Greek Cup final postponed at request of police

first_imgSaturday’s Greek Cup final between league champions Olympiakos Piraeus and AEK Athens has been postponed at the request of the police. The match was due to be held behind closed doors due to crowd violence that has blighted this season’s competition. However, a nationwide 48-hour strike by various trade unions that began on Friday meant the police did not have the resources to oversee the game.“By a decision from the Deputy Minister of Culture and Sport Mr Stavros Kontonis, the Greek Cup final has been postponed following a request from the police and the recommendation of the anti-violence committee,” said a government statement. No new date for the match has been announced. The postponement is the latest twist in what has become a farcical Greek Cup saga.Kontonis cancelled the competition after the first leg of the semi-final between PAOK Salonika and Olympiakos on March 2 was abandoned due to a pitch invasion.Fans also hurled flares and missiles before being dispersed by riot police.Kontonis reversed his decision last month after world governing body FIFA and European counterpart UEFA warned the country would be suspended from international football if the Greek Cup did not resume. The competition restarted with the remaining games played behind closed doors for security reasons.PAOK then failed to show up for the second leg of their semi-final and were punished with a heavy fine and a three-point points deduction that will take effect from the start of the 2016-17 league season.last_img read more
